PUTT User Manual

ABSTRACT
PUTT is a program for measuring and displaying hearing thresholds. The
name PUTT is derived from “pure-tone thresholds.” It was designed to
investigate whether sound intensity level (SIL) could eliminate the
problem of standing waves when sound levels are measured in the ear
canal. Recent versions include forward pressure level (FPL) as
alternative way to quantify sound level. PUTT implements both maximum
likelihood and staircase tracking methods to determine threshold. Tones
are presented in a single interval, yes/no paradigm, or in a two-interval
forced choice paradigm. Parameters of the stimulus presentation and
threshold determination are specified in a configuration file.
PUTT will
work with most high-quality soundcards (e.g., CardDeluxe, Gina3G,
Indigo io) and uses synchronous averaging for stimulus calibration.
